For over 27 years we have been working the Asset Management sector and we recognise the vital role the industry plays in protecting and safeguarding the investments, pensions and savings of millions across the world and we are committed to supporting our clients through these challenging times.

Peter is an experienced Risk and Compliance practitioner and consultant, who is used by senior executives to spearhead change in Risk and Compliance organisations.    As a former strategy consultant at a global branded strategy firm, he has strong change management skills and has deployed this in multiple successful risk transformation initiatives.

  • Interim CRO for a leading UK Asset Manger’s GBP 130bn EMEA operation, following departure of CRO and 40% of establishment.
  • Appointed interim Chief of Staff/COO to CRO of a leading Global Asset Manager during banking crisis, to help steer the function and organisation during the emergency. Rebuilt function and reduced cost of function by 40%.

Nicola has deep business transformation, cost efficiency, culture and regulatory change expertise in the financial services sector.  She has lived in London and New York and has led major change programmes impacting global workforces across Europe, Asia, LATAM, USA & Canada.  Nicola has held senior leadership positions at NatWest, Merrill Lynch and HSBC.

Transformation Lead


Graeme has extensive experience across Financial Services having held senior management / director positions in Banking, Insurance and Asset Management. Graeme held SMF positions in the UK and served as a Director of AI UK Funds Services Ltd, AI Luxembourg Funds and was also a Director of the industry body EFAMA (European Fund and Asset Management Association). 

Recent Projects

  • Led all aspects of the Asset Management Integration following Aviva’s acquisition of Friends Life. Delivered £46bn uplift in AuM by the end of 2015 generating £25m pa synergy benefits.
  • Implemented a defined process and plan for realising £60m of efficiency savings following the successful deployment of the Blackrock Aladdin platform at Aviva Investors.

Compliance Lead


Robin is the Compliance Practice Lead at SH Consulting, with over 20 years UK, EMEA and global compliance experience across investment management and trading environments.  He has held senior compliance positions within the UK and overseas in a number of major global organisations including Aviva, ICAP, ING, and Deloitte.

Recent Projects

  • Executive regulatory risk lead overseeing a regulatory transformation programme for a Banking Group.
  • Instrumental in the positive resolution of key regulatory investigations re conflicts mismanagement (FCA), cross trades (SEC), asset allocation (AIF), Libor manipulation (CFTC/FCA), Market misconduct (HKSFC).
  • Development of a global conduct infrastructure for Banking and Investment firms.

Tony is a senior operations & change leader with extensive experience in asset management & alternative investments.  He has proven experience of changing working practices and delivering automation that improves client service, creates scalability and substantially reduces costs.

  • Interim COO at global asset manager. Reviewed current service to institutional and retail clients working with senior stakeholders to create a new target operating model.
  • Interim COO responsible for the day to day business operations during a period of unprecedented change for a £50bn Pension fund.

Tony has worked in key roles at global Investment Banks and Asset Managers on a wide variety of initiatives that include business start-ups, systems change, technology strategy and governance at clients including HSBC, Barclays, UBS, RBS,
DB, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, CS, JP Morgan, Citi and GS.

Recent Projects

  • Head of commercial business development for Detica financial services, prior to acquisition by BAE systems.
  • Tony led the UK Consulting, Digital and Technology practices at Synechron, growing the business from 60 heads in London to 950 heads across UK and India.
  • Currently establishing NextWave as a spin-out venture focussing on consulting in the industry ecosystem of future technology platforms.

Checklist – Critical Considerations

The following checklist has been compiled from our consultants, lessons from our current client engagements and extensive conversations in the market. Please scroll through to review:


  • In a year’s time, when your business has successfully emerged from the coronavirus crisis, what will your employees say they valued most about your leadership during the pandemic? 
  • How well aligned is your People Strategy to the business requirements in the post COVID-19 environment?
  • Are you considering how the COVID-19 pandemic will influence your HR operating model? 
  • How will your approach to resource planning evolve now that remote working has been widely adopted? 
  • What ‘people risk’ lessons has your organisation learned through COVID-19 and what changes will you implement as a result?


  • Do you need to strengthen your oversight of fund valuations, cash and transaction processing, particularly if some or all of these are outsourced to third parties? With remote working and reduced staffing levels there is a greater potential for mistakes and delays.
  • How are you providing insights and reassurance to your investors during this period of turmoil? Are there further materials and support you can provide to your distribution network to improve retention rates on your funds?
  • There will be opportunities for new products and services coming out of the crisis. How should the current operating environment impact your new business/onboarding processes and risk assessment?


  • Have you done enough to rationalise your change portfolio and ensure resources are committed only to mandatory activities?
  • In a changing global environment that could see dramatic reduction in international travel, is now the time to be exploring in-sourcing from external ‘off-shore’ operating models?
  • Can you make further efficiencies by optimising your operating model ensuring that you adopt ‘consistent best practice’ across all of your jurisdictions (UK, Luxembourg, Ireland)?
  • How do you best optimise your Fund Management Company (ManCo) structures and ensure that you are optimising your oversight of all providers in an ever changing regulatory climate?


  • Have you (and your third party vendors ) got sufficient supervisory controls in place over home working staff to effectively mitigate and manage conduct risk?
  • Do you have good visibility on the key primary risks e.g. market, credit, liquidity, interest rate, leverage etc., – your firm faces, both now, and in the event of a significant economic dislocation arising from COVID 19?
  • Beyond immediate stabilisation activity, do you have a clear road map detailing initiatives, activities and resources necessary to build resilience and implement the necessary change to successfully operate and prosper in any new environment?
  • Do you have the right team structure with appropriate skill sets and personal strengths to support you in the transition to the new post COVID 19 environment?


  • How have you gained assurance that you understand the current operational processes, what is occurring in practice, and have addressed the enhanced compliance risk? 
  • How are you ensuring the prompt escalation/notification of key compliance risks, as well as consistency of communications, to internal/external stakeholders?
  • How have your compliance surveillance and supervision arrangements changed? Is your MI still appropriate?
  • Have you updated your Order Handling, Deal Records, Short selling, Valuation/Liquidity monitoring, ID&V, CASS, Fund Disclosures, Conflicts, Confidentiality, and MAR arrangements?


  • Do you have a clear view of where the value is going to be and a road map that will get you there?
  • What is your position on ESG technology? How are you positioned to capitalise on this growth?
  • What does your digital operating model post H1?
  • What investments are the most necessary to create the technology environment that will allow your company to thrive in the next normal?

Oli leads SH Consulting’s practice across Wealth and Asset Management. He works with clients enabling them to effect change and transformation through engagement of our agile consulting solutions as well as providing executive level interim support at both ExCo and Board. With 15 years in the industry Oli has a notable track record of delivering senior assignments with a range of clients including Asset Managers, Alternative Investors, Hedge Funds, Private Banks and Wealth Managers and across several different functional and specialist areas, including at CEO, CIO, CFO and COO level. Oli holds a degree in Business Economics from Kingston University.
