Sheffield Haworth London complete Three Peaks Challenge and raise £30,000 for charity

On 6th and 7th September the Sheffield Haworth London team undertook the national Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The Three Peaks Challenge consists of walking the three highest mountains in the UK which includes; Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales.  The aim is to complete the challenge in 24 hours with no sleep.

The team can’t claim to have finished the Three Peaks in 24 hours, due to the speed restrictions of the coach and a few injuries sustained along on the way, but they did complete it, nonetheless.

It was quite a gruelling task and unpleasant weather conditions made the challenge all the more difficult.  At one point they weren’t even sure if they could get to the top of Ben Nevis as the winds were too strong making it unsafe. Fortunately, the winds died down enough that they were able to get to the summit.

Sopping wet after having completed Ben Nevis, there were a few hours respite and frantic drying of clothing before the next mountain.  Arriving at Scafell Pike late at night, the team began their ascent with just their head torches to provide some much-needed light.

Completing the second mountain, there was just one to go – Snowdon.  At the beginning of the very final ascent, the sun came out for the team, providing some stunning views.  However, after having already completed two other mountains and having had very little sleep, energy levels were running low and the team had to dig deep to make it to the top.  But they did it, feeling a huge sense of achievement and relief that they had completed the challenge.

There were some very sore legs the following week in the office as well as a mass of protein and cereal bars leftover from the trip.  Sheffield Haworth is incredibly proud of the team who have managed to raise just under £30,000 for Cancer Research UK, surpassing our target by £10,000.  They showed great teamwork and unity, really lifting each other’s spirits and helping each other get through the challenge.

A huge thank you also goes to everyone who has donated to this wonderful cause.  This money will really help to make a difference to so many lives and we are very grateful for your support.

If you’d like to donate to our Challenge you can still do so until 30th October.  Please visit our page to do so.
