Case Study: Interim Risk Director

Client Context

Our client a, global Asset Management Group had just completed a merger with another established investment manager, so the global integration work was ongoing.  They required an Interim Risk Director to lead the team and build an Enterprise Risk Management Framework.

  • Following the recent appointment of a new CRO the decision was made to hire a standalone Head of Enterprise Risk.
  • Sensitive hire given the existing team.
  • A business critical ERM framework was also required by the regulator.
  • Our Client hadn’t engaged a senior interim consultant before.
  • Strong Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) experience was also desirable.

  • Owing to the depth of the Sheffield Haworth network in wealth and asset management we were able to rapidly deploy a Consultant with a proven buy-side track record who had worked with us on a previous assignment.
  • Our Consultant was tasked with meeting Operational Risk Enhancement Programme (OREP) requirements and to review the Enterprise Risk Framework with a fresh pair of eyes.
  • Based on best practices the consultant, assessed current state and advised/supported what the future state should look like.
  • Consultant met all OREP requirements.

  • Our client quickly saw the benefits of engaging an experienced asset management risk professional giving them peace of mind that their team was in safe hands.
  • Successfully completed the ERM framework and passed across to BAU.
  • Client able to focus on securing the right permanent hire through a search mandate.
  • The experience interim able to advise on best practice and help define the permanent hire’s responsibilities.
