Meet the Team – Harry Wimborne, Consulting Solutions Practice

Harry Wimborne is a Senior Consultant in the Consulting Solutions Practice at Sheffield Haworth.  Harry joined the team in 2015 and places senior talent into the Consumer and Alternative Finance space, working with clients including challenger banks, non-bank lenders and payments firms, to help them manage transformation or critical gaps in their teams.

1. Tell us a little about your role within the Consulting Solutions team and the types of clients you work with?

I am responsible for building the Consumer & Alternative Finance practice within Consulting Solutions.  My client base spans challenger banks, consumer focused fintechs and established brands within cards & payments as well as specialist non-bank lenders to the consumer and SME community.  I work with the leaders of those businesses to help them manage transformation or critical gaps in their teams.  It is a fascinating space to be in.

2.  What kind of assignments do you usually work on with your clients?

It is very varied and can span any functional area of the business where problems arise.  Consistently busy areas are risk, compliance, finance and business – wide transformation, with a focus on organisational design.  The assignments are typically either short term strategic advisory work or longer term engagements to deliver change or manage critical gaps.

3.  What are some of the challenges your clients are facing?

Currently a lot of lenders are reviewing their sources of funding, where an overreliance on one source is seen as too risky. Consequently, a lot of lenders are looking to attain banking licences to capture what is seen as a relatively low cost source of capital in the form of deposits.

4.  Tell us about a recent assignment where you successfully placed a candidate/team and how did they have a positive impact on the organisation?

I recently placed a programme director to lead the build of a new banking entity. They are responsible for owning the overall programme plan, encompassing everything from people strategy, IT and the licence application itself. With so many moving parts and interdependencies, it is vital for a strong change agent to lead the programme and ensure milestones and deliverables are met on time and within budget.

5.  What do you most enjoy about your role?

Talking to senior executives to learn about their specific business, understanding their potential pain-points and solving this through a carefully cultivated network of experienced professional consultants.

6.  Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I have an entirely complete 1995 Merlin Premier League sticker book!
